Job Overview

The role of the PI Engineer is pivotal in ensuring the seamless integration of environmental, safety, and health standards within the manufacturing process. This position involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at optimizing product and material industrialization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH):
    • Implement and uphold safety measures and controls.
    • Promote awareness and provide guidance on ESH responsibilities.
    • Ensure prompt notification and response to unsafe conditions, initiating preventive actions as necessary.
    • Exemplify outstanding personal conduct in ESH and inspire others to follow suit.
  • Product Industrialization:
    • Facilitate effective communication between central R&D and local teams.
    • Oversee the timely industrialization of new tire designs and technologies, aligning with local manufacturing capabilities.
    • Optimize product quality throughout its lifecycle.
    • Design innovative processes and procedures for material and product industrialization.
    • Engage in design and process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and develop control plans for new initiatives.
    • Manage Tire Release Notes (RNs) sent to the plant until receiving the second sign-off, while regularly monitoring outstanding RNs.
  • Material Industrialization:
    • Evaluate raw materials and compound formulations with R&D developers.
    • Ensure timely introduction of new raw materials and compounds.
    • Assess plant capabilities in collaboration with local engineering and production teams to facilitate new product launches.
    • Support knowledge exchange within the Two Wheel division.
    • Oversee Material and Process RNs sent to the plant until obtaining the second sign-off, and consistently monitor open RNs.
  • Product Management:
    • Implement strategies to standardize and consolidate production components effectively.
    • Execute value leadership initiatives.
    • Make informed decisions regarding off-spec materials in accordance with company and plant regulations.
    • Ensure the production, analysis, and timely delivery of prototype compounds, along with the necessary reporting.
  • Coordination of ETO and Pilot Activities:
    • Lead the ETO Team (PI Technicians) to guarantee timely and quality ETO construction.
    • Facilitate employee engagement alongside the PI Manager for the ETO team.
    • Enhance the quality of ETO reporting.
    • Organize weekly ETO and Pilot planning sessions.
Qualifications
  • Education: A university degree or higher in chemical engineering, with a focus on rubber and/or polymer technology and processing being highly advantageous.
  • Experience: A minimum of three years in the rubber industry, preferably within a manufacturing environment; willingness to learn about the rubber sector is also considered valuable.
  • Project and Process Experience: Familiarity with polymer material processing is beneficial but not essential; a keen interest in this area is crucial. Basic project management knowledge is advantageous and can be developed at Continental.
  • Leadership Experience: Not required.
  • International Experience: Experience working in multicultural teams is highly regarded.
