Outbound Mobility Advisor, Student Affairs

Position Summary
This position will work together with other Student Mobility staff to develop the necessary support for processing outbound students to the New York or Abu Dhabi campuses, global academic centers, and NYU Sponsored trips
and programs.
The main responsibilities include:
Students Outbound Visa Advising (35%)
• Provide general visa outbound presentation, information session, troubleshooting session to students during Orientation and semester.
• Run and develop the “take-off and landings” outbound visa series.
• Provide one on one visa consultation to students during the semester on outbound affairs.
• Familiarize students with different visa processes to different NYU global sites.
• Connect with the other 14 NYU global sites and campuses, work with OGS office in NYC to help students get visa supporting documents to each site/campus.
• Use the global mobility tools, to track, support each student on their visa application process.
• Ensure a high quality of immigration service provided.
• Take more initiatives on visa and immigration affairs.
Student Development and Outbound Support Programming (30%)
• Try different ways to improve the outbound support by collaborating with other student affairs function units or other departments within or outside of NYU Shanghai.
• Develop different outbound support programs to enhance students’ learnings, equip students with required skills (e.g. visa interview strategies), and build students’ confidence in navigating the immigration system on their own.
• Develop a peer advising program to create more peer learning opportunities.
• Work together with the Diversity program on programming which enhances students’ cross-cultural understanding and learnings from the immigration perspective.
• Utilize more technical skills to improve the program.
Relationship Building on Local Immigration Resources (20%)
• Coordinate with professional visa agencies/visa centers to provide high-quality visa services to students.
• Build, develop and maintain a good relationship with different countries’ embassies/consulates/visa centers and local visa service agencies by attending different programs/conferences/meetings, or initialing conferences/meetings.
• Find more resources and build more relationships to support the study away visa application.
General program support (10%)
• In collaboration with other offices, plan, participate, and further develop existing NYU Shanghai Student Affairs activities.
• Assist with other major Student Affairs initiatives as assigned.
Administration (5%)
• Work on the office administration as assigned by supervisor, team head or deans.
Qualifications
Required Education
• Bachelor’s degree or above;
• Study abroad experiences are preferred.
Required Experience
• Work experience in immigration-related areas or higher education preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Proficient in both written and spoken English and Mandarin.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills to work in an international and cross-cultural environment.
• Good problem-solving skills, and good time management skills.
• High professional integrity, honesty, and trust.
• Good execution skills, well organized, diplomatic, attention on details and service oriented.
