Position Overview

ROLE SUMMARY This role involves overseeing a designated team of purchasing professionals for Gucci China, directing the buying teams to make informed decisions regarding product acquisitions based on pre-established Open-To-Buy allocations across various styles, materials, functionalities, and colors. The objective is to optimize sales performance, inventory turnover, profitability, and the overall brand image. This position also entails monitoring sales outcomes, inventory status, and providing insightful analysis and recommendations as necessary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee merchandise assortment and mix planning in alignment with the merchandising strategies established by senior management for various Directly Operated Stores (DOS).
  • Lead the Shanghai-based buying teams in planning and executing purchasing activities across all assigned categories.
  • Monitor inventory levels, delivery schedules, and reorder situations to ensure optimal stock levels are maintained across all designated categories, while managing merchandise allocations to DOS and coordinating with stores and warehouses for stock replenishment.
  • Analyze sales data and sell-through rates, implementing strategies to liquidate excess stock and enhance sales, while managing markdowns and merchandise issues during seasonal sales.
  • Collaborate with Merchandise Planning to comprehend the Open-To-Buy Plans for the market.
  • Provide comprehensive product training and insights on fashion trends to frontline staff.
  • Promote team cohesion and professional development within the buying team.
  • Work in partnership with Public Relations, Visual Merchandising, Advertising, and Store Operations Departments to synchronize merchandising, sales, and promotional strategies, while gathering feedback from stores for merchandising plan reviews.
  • Ensure effective communication with all relevant departments, including Store Operations, Public Relations, Advertising, Visual Merchandising, Warehouse, Finance, Training, and After Sales Services.
  • Collaborate with Category Managers regarding merchandise needs for the market.
  • Regularly report to the Managing Directors on sales performance, merchandise mix, inventory status, and other significant issues.
  • Frequent travel will be required for buying trips and store visits.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A degree in retail, purchasing, marketing, fashion, business, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant merchandising experience in the high fashion sector, ideally with a focus on specific categories.
  • Strong analytical and leadership capabilities.
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal communication skills.
  • A forward-thinking mindset with robust problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-motivated, independent, and capable of working under pressure.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficient in both written and spoken English and Chinese.
