Outstanding Opportunity for Compliance Expert

This is an exceptional chance for an experienced compliance attorney to join Applied Materials' Global Litigation & Compliance team and contribute to the implementation and sustenance of the company's compliance programs in China. Based in Shanghai, this role will be a critical part of the team, reporting to the Senior Director, Ethics & Compliance, and working closely with the Regional Compliance Officer for China.

Key Responsibilities
  • Continuously analyze compliance-related laws and regulations applicable to the company and their impact on strategy and operations.
  • Provide proactive and reactive counsel and guidance to regional executive teams and leaders regarding compliance issues.
  • Conduct and advise on compliance risk assessments, audits, and due diligence reviews.
  • Design, implement, and oversee compliance controls and tools, including working with compliance technology support to address any gaps identified.
  • Lead and manage compliance evaluations and approvals related to conflicts of interest, corporate donations, business gifts, and third-party onboarding.
  • Drive awareness around compliance issues in the region, including developing and delivering training, communicating company policies, and overseeing regional awareness campaigns.
  • Partner with legal and business colleagues to support M&A activity in the region.
  • Conduct and support internal investigations in the region in coordination with the Director, Compliance Investigations, the broader Global Litigation & Compliance team, and/or outside counsel.
  • Support company engagement with regional government, industry, and peer groups on compliance and related issues.
  • Prepare and present periodic reports to various stakeholders, including global and regional executives and leaders, Legal & Compliance Organization colleagues, and control function counterparts.
  • Undertake special projects and support other compliance program initiatives as may be assigned.
Requirements
  • J.D. or LLM from an accredited US law school and 10+ years' relevant experience in-house and/or with a top-tier law firm experience - in which 8+ years with a substantial focus on compliance (business ethics, anti-bribery, anti-corruption, anti-fraud, and conflicts of interest).
  • Experience leading – from China – a regional compliance program for a multinational company.
  • Experience supporting and collaborating with stakeholders at all organizational levels, including executives (C-Suite, CISO, etc.).
  • Ability to influence beyond authority in a complex and matrixed organization.
  • Strong background in conducting internal investigations and risk assessments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, impeccable integrity, good judgment, strong analytical skills, flexible, and pragmatic.
  • Collaborative by nature and able to build strong partnerships across cultures and regions.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and able to manage and prioritize a diverse and complex workload.
  • Demonstrable ability to drive global, enterprise-wide policies and practices;
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English and Mandarin.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Significant work experience with a US-based multinational company.
  • Experience within the semiconductor industry.
