Position Overview

Job Objective

We are in search of a skilled artificial intelligence (AI) research scientist to become a part of the AI, Data and Digital (AIDD) team at Roche's China Innovation Center. In this capacity, you will work alongside computational biologists, chemists, and digital experts to create AI algorithms, construct tailored models, and execute solutions for drug research and development (R&D).

This position demands a robust understanding of machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL), along with experience in their application within drug R&D. You will be a driven and dedicated scientist who contributes innovative ideas and enthusiasm to a team committed to developing groundbreaking medicines for patients with unmet medical needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a pivotal contributor to our AI strategy and the AI segment of the AIDD team, enhancing the success rate of drug portfolio initiatives and boosting R&D productivity.
  • Identify, develop, and implement suitable AI solutions to derive scientific insights (target identification, molecule design & prediction), automate laboratory processes, and complement traditional computational methods through close collaboration within the AIDD team (CADD, Bioinformatics, Digital, etc.).
  • Investigate and apply generative AI methodologies, including large language models (LLMs) and their applications, to support drug R&D.
  • Engage with data scientists, AI researchers, and informatics specialists across Roche to share insights and collaborate on projects.
  • Lead AI initiatives or projects across the organization, leveraging your expertise in machine learning, computer science, mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, or a related field.
  • Possess 3+ years of industry experience, preferably in pharmaceutical (MNC/biotech), internet, or AI startup environments.
  • Demonstrate a passion for applying AI across various domains of drug R&D, including cheminformatics, bioinformatics, biomedical applications, and laboratory automation, while acquiring relevant scientific knowledge.
  • Exhibit a proven track record of successfully developing ML/DL models to address scientific challenges (preferably in the pharmaceutical sector) and leading teams to implement impactful AI solutions.
  • Showcase strong expertise and practical experience in developing state-of-the-art deep learning models, including graph neural networks (GNNs), transformers, generative networks, and convolutional neural networks (CNNs).
  • Possess excellent analytical and mathematical skills, capable of identifying critical questions and devising innovative AI solutions.
  • Be proficient in programming languages, particularly Python, and familiar with commonly used machine learning and deep learning frameworks, such as Scikit-learn, PyTorch, and TensorFlow.
  • Have experience in training and optimizing ML/DL models, including hyper-parameter tuning, regularization techniques, and model evaluation methods.
  • Experience with multi-modal deep learning frameworks and solutions is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with AI model operationalization (AIOps), container orchestration platforms, and cloud-native application development is a plus.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills in both English and Mandarin.
