Job Summary

NYU Shanghai seeks a seasoned professional to lead its recruitment, admissions, and financial aid efforts. As the Executive Director of Recruitment, Admissions and Financial Aid, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans to attract and enroll top talent from around the world.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Management
    • Oversee a team of admissions professionals in Shanghai and New York, providing guidance and direction to ensure alignment with university enrollment goals.
    • Represent NYU Shanghai in senior leadership and enrollment management teams, fostering collaboration and communication across departments.
    • Ensure staff are trained and equipped to conduct outreach and evaluate applications, upholding the highest standards of quality and integrity.
    • Lead the recruitment, selection, and development of high-caliber staff, promoting a culture of excellence and innovation.
  • Recruitment and Strategic Planning
    • Develop and execute targeted outreach programs to attract top talent from China and around the world, including on-campus summer programs and yield initiatives.
    • Oversee the development of long-term recruitment strategies, working closely with senior leadership to adapt the admission process to accommodate growth and changing market conditions.
    • Examine and analyze data to inform recruitment plans, identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation.
    • Lead the planning and execution of all on- and off-campus admission events, including counselor programs, candidate weekends, and yield programming.
  • Communication and Relationship Building
    • Represent NYU Shanghai to external constituents, including college counseling communities and professional associations, through committee involvement, conference presentations, and individual relationships.
    • Position NYU Shanghai as a source of expertise in US higher education within the region and China, fostering partnerships and collaborations.
    • Serve as the chief admissions liaison to local, regional, and national agencies, ensuring alignment with local cultural norms and expectations.
  • Administration
    • Oversee the admissions budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources and strategic investment in recruitment initiatives.
    • Work closely with enrollment management divisions to align data management and systems usage, ensuring seamless integration and data-driven decision-making.
    • Provide contextual and strategic admissions reports to leadership, informing data-driven decision-making and strategic planning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10 years of progressively responsible professional experience in higher education administration or equivalent combination of education and experience, including previous experience in managing, leading, and mentoring staff.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and planning skills, with exemplary relationship-building skills and knowledge of market and societal trends affecting undergraduate enrollment at selective institutions.
  • Cogent understanding of international school systems and curricula, especially Gaokao examinations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in both Mandarin and English.
  • Master's degree in higher education, administration/management, or related field.
  • Experience in international admissions and knowledge of PeopleSoft and/or Slate Technolutions.
  • Experience at a large, decentralized college or university with global programming preferred.
