Job Summary

The Market Strategy Director will serve as the strategic business leader for Market Strategy within a cluster of properties. This role is responsible for maximizing revenue and profit associated with rooms and function space in cluster properties. The successful candidate will be accountable for pricing, positioning, and inventory management of transient, group, and catering in a given cluster. This position oversees all processes associated with demand, revenue, forecasting, inventory management, and opportunity analysis. The Market Strategy Director will work closely with the sales strategy team to develop and implement the hotel(s)' sales strategy. The ideal candidate will identify future revenue opportunities and effectively communicate strategies to the sales organization.

Candidate Profile

Education and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess a 2-year degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, Finance, and Accounting, Economics, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or a related major, with 6 years of experience in revenue management, sales, and marketing, or a related professional area. Alternatively, a 4-year bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, and Accounting, Economics, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or a related major, with 4 years of experience in revenue management, sales, and marketing, or a related professional area.

Core Work Activities

Analyzing and Reporting Revenue Management Data

The Market Strategy Director will compile information, analyze, and monitor actual sales against projected sales. This role will identify the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by breaking down information or data into separate parts. The successful candidate will use computers and computer systems to program, write software, set up functions, enter data, or process information. This role will analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems. The Market Strategy Director will translate or explain what information means and how it can be used. This role will evaluate the effectiveness of property participation in electronic sales channels. The successful candidate will analyze competitive sets, price positioning, seasonality, mix, and displacement on a continuous basis. This role will assist hotels with pricing and provide input on business evaluation recommendations. The Market Strategy Director will analyze period-end and other available systems data to identify trends, future need periods, and obstacles to achieving goals. This role will generate updates on transient segment each period. The successful candidate will work with Market VP, Market GM, and GM's to assist in pricing analyses for all products in the Market cluster. This role will assist with account diagnostics process and validate conclusions.

Managing Revenue Management Projects and Strategy

The Market Strategy Director will utilize interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence, and encourage others. This role will advocate sound financial/business decision-making and demonstrate honesty/integrity. The successful candidate will lead by example. This role will understand and meet the needs of key stakeholders (owners, corporate, guests, etc.). The Market Strategy Director will update market knowledge and align strategies and approaches accordingly. This role will establish long-range objectives and specify the strategies and actions to achieve them. The successful candidate will work closely with Sales and Marketing for business opportunities and aims to increase profitability of the organization. This role will achieve and exceed goals, including performance goals, budget goals, team goals, etc. The Market Strategy Director will take a predetermined strategy and drive the execution of that strategy. This role will think creatively and practically to develop, execute, and implement new business plans. The successful candidate will attend meetings to plan, organize, prioritize, coordinate, and manage activities and solutions. This role will develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work. The Market Strategy Director will develop the Business Outlook Strategy. This role will determine sales strategies and communicate to market sales leadership, marketing communications teams, and property leadership. The successful candidate will establish and maintain effective and rational pricing strategies for rooms and function space. This role will develop and execute the hotel(s) strategic plan(s). The Market Strategy Director will oversee the annual pricing process for transient, group, and catering rooms, function space, and audio-visual. This role will provide critical input to market leaders for development of property and overall market sales strategy. The successful candidate will ensure hotel strategies conform to brand philosophies and initiatives. This role will ensure that sales strategies and rate restrictions are communicated, implemented, and modified as market conditions fluctuate. The Market Strategy Director will prepare sales strategy meeting agenda, supporting documentation, and lead property and/or cluster meetings. This role will conduct sales strategy analysis and refine as appropriate to increase market share for all properties. The successful candidate will develop 6-month, 12-month, and 2-year strategic action plans for management of cluster transient revenues. This role will manage inventory to maximize cluster rooms revenue. The Market Strategy Director will ensure property diagnostic processes (PDP) are used to maximize revenue and profits. This role will initiate, implement, and evaluate revenue tests.

Building Successful Relationships

The Market Strategy Director will provide market strategy expertise and leadership to general managers, property leadership teams, and market sales leaders. This role will identify and communicate revenue and profit opportunities to property leadership teams and sales organization. The successful candidate will develop and manage internal key stakeholder relationships. This role will provide targeted and timely communication of results, achievements, and challenges to stakeholders.
