Environmental Sustainability Strategist for Asia-Pacific Infrastructure Development

The AIIB is a multilateral development bank dedicated to promoting sustainable infrastructure development in Asia and beyond. As a key player in this effort, we aim to provide financing for high-quality infrastructure projects that are aligned with our Environmental and Social Framework.

We are seeking an experienced Principal Environmental Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading our environmental team in supporting the realization of AIIB's commitment to sustainable development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership to the Environmental Team, ensuring effective implementation of AIIB's Environmental and Social Policy (ESP) across all investment operations.
- Oversee the application of the ESP Directive and Administrative Guidance in AIIB's investment operations, relying on sound critical thinking and international good practice.
- Manage relationships with relevant AIIB departments, including operational departments, the Compliance Unit, Strategy Department, and Communications Department, on environmental and social development thematic topics.
- Develop and conduct training on the ESP and associated directives and guidance for AIIB staff and clients, in collaboration with the Principal Social Development Specialist.
- Serve as AIIB's focal point for coordination activities with other MDBs and bilateral development organizations on environmental topics.
- Serve as AIIB's focal point on relations with external stakeholders, including civil society organizations and NGOs, concerning environmental issues in AIIB's investment operations.
Requirements:
- Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in environmental or natural science, engineering, planning, law, finance, business, or related discipline.
- A minimum of 15 years of relevant international experience in environmental planning, risk management, or related field, preferably with a multilateral/regional development bank, bilateral organization, or private sector entity.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with a proven track record as a manager and/or leader of interdisciplinary teams, and experience working with public and private sector clients, development partners, and external stakeholders.
- Familiarity with business processes and international good practice in infrastructure investment operations, as well as a high level of personal integrity and sense of accountability.
