The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank dedicated to financing infrastructure that promotes sustainable growth in Asia and beyond. With a mission to finance projects with sustainability at their core, AIIB has grown to 110 approved members worldwide since its inception in 2016.
Job DescriptionWe are seeking a Junior Environmental and Social Analyst to join our Sustainability and Fiduciary Solutions Department. This role will involve participating in the preparation of private sector and sovereign finance operations, implementing and reporting on projects, as well as conducting research and analytical work supervised by Senior Specialists.
Key Responsibilities- Supporting due diligence on environmental aspects of projects, including desk studies to assess environmental and social feasibility
- Participating in project screening for potential environmental and climate change-related risks and impacts, proposing ES categories for projects
- Conducting studies on country systems and regulations related to environmental issues
- Supporting appraisal of environmental risks and impacts associated with investment projects against AIIB's Environmental and Social Framework (ESF)
- Reviewing Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) and Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMP) prepared by clients
- Monitoring implementation of ES aspects of projects and addressing any issues during project implementation
- Preparing and reviewing internal documents associated with projects
- Organizing training on environmental safeguard systems for AIIB staff and clients
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental planning, engineering, policy, or management
- 2-3 years of relevant experience in research or working in environmental-related research institutes/universities, NGOs, or consulting firms
- High levels of competency in quantitative and qualitative research methods
- Knowledge of one or more areas of environmental modeling, e.g., models for air dispersion and noise
- Experience working in developing countries a plus
- Good team player with strong initiative
- Proficient in oral and written communication skills in English
