The Economist is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Project-affected People's Mechanism Compliance Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Compliance Review Unit, you will be responsible for handling compliance reviews of eligible submissions made to the Project-affected People's Mechanism.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough compliance reviews of submissions to ensure adherence to the Project-affected People's Rules of Procedure.
  • Manage specific tasks related to compliance review work, including eligibility assessment, preparation of Terms of Reference, coordination of review teams, and preparation of compliance review reports.
  • Provide inputs for maintaining the PPM Registry and ensuring timely management and disclosure of documents in accordance with relevant policies.
  • Ensure that timelines under the Project-affected People's Rules of Procedure are followed and timely responses are sent by the PPM.
  • Carry out outreach activities and support the PPM in solving problems identified in submissions made to the PPM.
  • Undertake designated tasks relating to the Independent Accountability Mechanisms Network.
  • Design and oversee the maintenance and updating of the PPM website.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports by the PPM, including annual reports.
  • Support PPM outreach programs and orientation sessions and training to familiarize executing agencies, nongovernmental and civil society organizations, and other stakeholders with the PPM and its functions.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree or equivalent in economic, legal, social, environmental, or other development-related field with a strong background in leading and managing complex social and socio-environmental issues and impact of large projects.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of relevant professional work experience, especially in operations, in a multilateral development bank or international organization with extensive experience in international business/transactions.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting investigations or compliance reviews in relation to E&S impacts on project-affected people and communities.
  • Proven application of safeguard policy expertise and skills in compliance investigations under independent accountability mechanism (IAM).
  • Demonstrated international experience of working in several countries and ability to engage and build rapport and trust with stakeholders around various and complex E&S impacts and development issues.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, including the ability to prepare, present, and defend fact, findings, issues, lessons learned, and recommendations in a clear, concise, and compelling manner.
  • Proficiency in another language used in AIIB members is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure and balance multiple priorities.
  • Highest levels of integrity, professionalism, diplomacy, and tact.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and a proven track record of being a team player.
  • Demonstrated leadership, innovation, and conceptualization skills.
