Job Description

As a Mechanical Engineer at Corning, you will play a critical role in driving process improvement, automation design, and equipment development. Your expertise will be essential in leading project management, manufacturing optimization, and quality assurance initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Division Engineering and plant partners to ensure timely communication and issue resolution.
  • Lead equipment continuous improvement to enhance AGS process capability, maintain production stability, and consistency.
  • Develop new technologies and improvements that drive market leadership and achieve Corning's low-cost/high-quality strategy.
  • Design, specify, install, and debug new equipment or modify existing equipment to improve system reliability and lower maintenance costs.
  • Provide analytical and problem-solving support to manufacturing teams to ensure timely delivery of projects.
  • Report issues with professional data analysis and clear logical processes.
  • Establish and update system SOPs as needed and ensure all procedures are properly written and followed.
  • Lead project management for projects with intermediate scope, including project planning, resource allocation, AR initiation, spending control, and production scale-up.
  • Develop partnerships with process/control teams for technology development and fundamental understanding.
  • Partner with plant engineering for effective implementation of process or process/control changes.
  • Build effective relationships and interactions with internal and external customers and stakeholders.
Requirements
  • BS/MS degree or above in Mechanical or Mechatronics.
  • Prefer design abilities: layout/component design, mechanical design of large-scale machines, and independent design for large-scale automation projects.
  • 7+ years' experience as a Mechanical Engineer.
  • Ability to independently create 2D and 3D drawings.
  • Experience working with and/or supervising project teams.
  • 2+ years supervisory experience preferred.
Preferred Skills
  • Ability to independently create 2D and 3D drawings (good command of MS Office, AutoCAD, Solid Works, and ANSYS Workbench).
  • Mechanical design of large-scale machines and independent design for large-scale automation projects.
  • Rich experiences in automation design, successfully applied in factories or the market.
  • Fundamental understanding of common mechanical mechanisms: motion mechanism design, fluid, motor, pump, pneumatic, hydraulic, etc.
  • Knowledge of mechanical design principles, dimension chain analysis, parts selection, and so on.
  • Improve process capability with process/control engineers.
  • Use rigorous processes and data to solve problems.
  • Cost reduction, yield improvement, capacity expansion, and trouble-shooting experience.
  • Conviction and passion for safety, cleanliness, process control, and process discipline.
  • Familiarity with mechanical design standards and structural mechanics analysis.
  • Rich troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills of mechanical issues.
  • Curiosity, love to study, and the ability to continuously learn.
  • Experience with structured problem-solving methods such as DMAIC, KT, DOE, and lead problem-solving and process improvement.
Desired Skills
  • Project management experience.
  • Understanding of equipment mechanical operations and control.
  • Understanding of DMAIC, Lean, and Six-Sigma methods and tools.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, including English.
  • Familiarity with electrical knowledge, e.g., PLC, Servo motor, VFD, Relay.
