Job Description

SUMMARY

It’s an exciting time to be part of IFF’s Global Functional Ingredients R&D team. As a research scientist in Greater Asia region, you will play an important role in our hydrocolloid research and development in line with business strategy to support our Nourish Division. 
IFF is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Scientist with experience in Hydrocolloids and Food Technology, and a proven track record of independently conceptualizing present and future market needs for functional food & beverage ingredients. 
Key focus will be to translate market needs into technical solutions through close customer engagement, scientific disciplines, and product discoveries across function and bridge Global R&D with customers, business, sales, and application in the region.
Location will be Shanghai, China at IFF’s Innovation center. Directly reporting to Functional Ingredients R&D in Brabrand, Denmark with dotted reporting line to a regional business partner in China. 

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE AND LEAD

• Be the Go-To person as Subject Matter Expert in Hydrocolloids for application experts within Greater Asia region.
• Internal scientific support:

provide and support the local application experts to develop customer solutions pro-actively work with sales and application to screen new molecules to be ahead of competitors and keeping IFF in a leadership position in the core categories.

• External scientific support:

interact and provide technical guidance of IFF hydrocolloids and address customers’ technical challenges support customers’ workshop/training events, represent IFF to be the speaker in Food Ingredients forums.

• Independently engage in R&D projects as technical contributor or lead to successfully accomplish project goals applying in-depth expertise and scientific principles. Demonstrate technical leadership, recognizes critical project needs, and independently implement changes as required to meet business needs.
• Build strong collaborations with local application experts, sales, and business partners within Greater Asia. 
• Builds strong collaborations with R&D peers. Teaches, advises, and imparts technical proficiency to others. Manages stakeholders through regular communication of project results and progress.
• Hands-on lab work executing trials with the purpose of developing hydrocolloids and fibers and understand how they perform in a food matrix.
• Apply statistical principals during design of experiment and when analyzing results.
• Reviews literature / patents to identify FTO barriers and mitigation plans. 
• Demonstrates technical leadership, innovative mindset, and adaptability in responding to needs from customers, business stakeholder and R&D.

Job Requirements

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

Qualifications
• PhD in Chemistry or Food Technology with minimum 3 years track record from relevant industry. 
• Proven experience in related role to demonstrate mastery of responsibilities and successful completion of projects and/or technology implementation(s).
• Experience with hydrocolloids used in Food and Beverage industry.
• Experience from Food or Beverage companies. 
• Knowledge of physio-chemical characterization of hydrocolloids such as rheology is an advantage.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English is required.

Personal Skills
• Experience in managing cross function/matrix organization.
• Proactive and effective communication skill to engage multiple stakeholders.
• Strong ability to work independently with self-motivation, be objective focused and remotely collaborate with manager and colleagues in Denmark. 
• Ability to deliver on time, be proactive, take initiative and provide structure.
