Job Purpose
Manage and strengthen the segment product portfolio for the countries in scope, in alignment with the segment strategies, and market trends; ensures that the product portfolio & pipeline meets market/customer needs.
Drive product portfolio initiatives for the development of new or replacement products (NPD/NPI), the management of product launches into the market, the maintenance of existing portfolio; including withdrawal management of non- performing or obsolete products from the market and actively seeks portfolio harmonization opportunities across the countries in scope (complexity reduction).
Responsible for ensuring collaborative approach at PCU level; focal point of product management for the region, segment or category, including representing Product Management in Regional Management Team. Attend and prepare relevant report to be presented at regular regional PMR & DMR meetings.
Ensure full alignment between Regional and Global Product initiatives and programs; provide input for regional needs to global functions/programs.
Drive customer preference for AkzoNobel products versus competition
Key Accountabilities1As part of the product management team, grow & manage portfolio according to the strategic mandates. Establish, enhance collaboration, and strengthen the processes involving multi-disciplinary stakeholders (RD & I, label, Regulatory Affair, Pricing, Production, Supply Chain, etc) to ensure effective & efficient execution of all product portfolio management initiatives & required operational activities to meet targeted deliverables within targeted timeline. Share knowledge and best practices on product management amongst peers across regions & drive continuous improvement within the regional PM organization.
1. Product Portfolio Management
• Lead & drive the product portfolio management (life cycle of product lines) and establish/ define portfolio strategies for new product category & opportunities in the countries in scope. Co-develop with Commercial Marketing on strategies for new products and segments of countries in scope.
• Develop, implement & communicate strategic portfolio plans in the countries in scope.
• Gather, analyze data, and maintain key performance indicators (including market trends & direction) to measure & improve overall performance of the product line within the region and respective countries in scope. Supported by regional commercial marketing & specialist, monitor marketplace for competitive moves. Work with cross functional teams to develop internal and external competitive analysis and selling in alignment with guides.
• Develop and execute regional portfolio plans in line with strategies; to provide clarity & guidance on new product development & product portfolio initiatives (launches/value engineering) to ensure robust portfolio pipelines for the region/ countries in scope; facilitate analysis & decisions on global/regional portfolio development, regional/ local portfolio optimization; as well as rationalization of existing products.
• Responsible to manage product lifecycle as a portfolio; Maintain the specified product ranges and associated master data; ensuring compliance with technical specifications set by R&D and PSRA.
• Be the bowtie between organizations commercial & other stakeholders of portfolio management (RD & I, regulatory affair, production, supply/demand) in ensuring market needs are fully defined and translated into product development processes and bring in new products and regularly replace and eliminate obsolete products. Manages the tail by driving initiatives to sustainably reduce slow movers/ obsolete products (SLOB).
• Lead the Stage Gate process for regional projects; drive project development with relevant stakeholders by ensuring alignment with the Stage Gate process, market inputs & business strategies. Provide Stage Gate projects with outward focused inputs. Translate value propositions from segment plans into product solutions. Coordinate with R&D to create specifications for new products based on market trends and customer needs.
• Provide input for competitor benchmark studies. Support the regular competitive product testing and benchmarking in cooperation with Global Product Management, Technical Sales & RD & I teams.
2. Product Positioning & Commercialization
• Support the creation of product portfolio related strategies to ensure optimal product positioning.
• Responsible for regional launch of new products through coordination with multi-disciplinary teams.
• Own & drive launch planning and provide guidance to the cross-functional project team members to execute all required project preparations and operational launch activities.
• Facilitate RD & I in new product development and/ or modifications of a product or product line to achieve the targets set by Commercial Marketing/ Sales, and in line with the targeted budget/ cost.
• Coordinate closely with Commercial Marketing to obtain market potential/ opportunities to establish targeted cost & value-based pricing. Ensure project meets targeted product cost.
• Work with Commercial Marketing to provide guidance on specific product selection to meet customers requirements & to supply relevant production information is provided to the commercial organization.
• Contribute to the creation of best practices in product management across the business unit, particularly with respect to actual process and IT-tools.
3. Product related Communication
• Assist Commercial Marketing by providing product specific information (features, benefits, advantages) for the development & implementation of high impact/ differentiated product positioning literature for the internal organization and external customers; message strategy,planning, deliverables, creation of high-impact sales tools and customer retention tools such as white papers, newsletters, presentations, product demos.
• Assist Commercial Marketing by providing product relevant input for digital media / social media,technical 'how to' video and product campaigns.
4. Complaint management
• Is responsible for ensuring adequate and timely handling of complaints, and be the focal point for sales, RD & I, ISC & manufacturing, actively involved to achieve resolution and/ or to escalate.
• Support, when required in, complaint management (8D investigation), especially if it relates activities that involve modifications/ adjustments of product recipe/ specifications.
5. Market Insights; Strategy & Innovation
• Utilize and translate internal/ external market information related to products to understand customer needs and presents conclusions and recommendations.
6. Compliance & HSE
• Establish familiarity and ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures related to personal conduct and HSE standards.
• With PSRA guidance, develops and implements action plans to ensure that TDS/SDS/labels and NPD/NPI are compliant with legal requirements of destination markets. Manages product master data
• 5-7 years' experience in either R&D, Manufacturing or Marketing, preferably with experience as a
• Product Manager/ Marketing related functions.
• University qualification in engineering or chemistry; business management, marketing
• Fluent in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Has sound project management skills to meet targeted deliverables within agreed timeline.
• Developed business acumen with strong strategic thinking, analytical/ critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
• Collaborative, results focused and excellent communicator
• Displays initiative/ pro-active approach and ability to work independently.
