Ford Design – Technical Operations transforms design concepts into reality with a keen eye for detail and the ability to push boundaries. As an essential part of Ford Global Design, we bring design ideas to life by ensuring they are feasible, visually appealing, and ready for production. The Class A Surface Designer plays a key role in translating creative visions into practical surfaces that maintain the essence of the original design.

RESPONSIBILITIES What you'll be responsible for:

  • Guiding program surface development and expert evaluation
  • Leading cross-system surface execution to ensure overall surface compatibility
  • Ensuring all program surface interfaces are integrated cohesively
  • Building and managing a Class A surface database for reference
  • Incorporating technical and program requirements into surfaces while preserving the design vision
  • Resolving surface data issues through reviews
  • Managing surface changes in the Ford SDMS system
  • Maintaining program product structure in the Ford TeamCenter system
  • Supporting workload distribution and prioritization of surface development
  • Assisting in the progression of program surfaces through feasibility processes
  • Developing surfaces to support design intent through final production stages

QUALIFICATIONS What we're looking for:

  • Bachelor's Degree in industrial design, transportation design, mechanical engineering, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in Class A surface design (Alias, ICEM Surf, ISD/IDX, Maya, Grasshopper), preferably in automotive design
  • Knowledge of industry quality standards for Automotive Class A surfaces
  • Ability to analyze and validate surface geometry for optimal construction practices
  • Proficiency in modeling software such as Blender, Unreal, VRED, Grasshopper, or similar tools
  • Understanding of material selection and its impact on surface design
  • Thorough knowledge of the surface development process from concept to production release
