Job Overview

The Cost Estimation Engineer plays a crucial role in calculating and delivering precise cost information to various internal stakeholders, including Acquisition Managers, Program Managers, Finance Controllers, Sales Teams, and Buyers, to facilitate business acquisition and program advancement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently assess the costs of purchased components, including piece and tooling expenses, utilizing design inputs such as EBOM, 3D models, and 2D schematics.
  • Evaluate in-house manufacturing costs by analyzing plant productivity and relevant rates.
  • Develop a Cost Bill of Materials (CBOM) with risk and opportunity assessments during both acquisition and program stages to boost competitiveness and profitability.
  • Establish sourcing cost targets for purchased components and assist in supplier negotiations as required.
  • Conduct make-or-buy analyses, evaluate engineering change request costs, and engage in value analysis/value engineering initiatives.
  • Perform supplier tooling audits post-Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), focusing on identifying the true costs of tooling through empirical evidence and professional expertise.
  • Create new databases and update existing ones as necessary.
  • Develop new cost models and revise existing ones to ensure accuracy.
  • Participate in special costing projects as needed.
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics and Management Standards.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in stamping tooling design or process planning within the automotive sector, with a solid understanding of tooling cost structures and market dynamics.
  • Proficient in various tooling types, including manual dies, transfer dies, and progressive dies, with the ability to analyze stamping processes and tooling configurations independently based on 3D/2D drawings and business needs.
  • Strong communication skills and a keen business acumen.
  • Capable of working effectively under pressure and meeting deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong aptitude for numerical analysis and mass data processing using Excel.
  • Basic proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
  • Preferred qualifications include candidates with prior costing experience or those who have worked in the automotive seating industry.
