Job Overview

We are seeking dedicated Structural & Mechanical Quality Inspectors to join our team, contracted with Star Trading Co. Ltd Shanghai. These professionals will operate under the supervision of the Quality Assurance (QA) Department at APM Terminals Crane & Engineering Services (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (APMT CES). The primary responsibility will be to ensure the quality of structural and mechanical fabrication, installation, assembly, erection, and alignment of cranes and other heavy industrial equipment at the manufacturers' facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform onsite structural and mechanical inspections as required, ensuring adherence to project specifications, design drawings, and industry standards.
  • Act as the QA Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for specific projects as necessary.
  • Assist in the development of the Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) for assigned projects, ensuring quality inspections are conducted in accordance with the ITP.
  • Comply with the working hours, overtime, holidays, and leave schedules as directed by the CES site QA Team Leader or QA Manager.
  • Monitor and report any Non-Conformance in cases of significant deviations from Contract, Specification, Design, or Standards.
  • Utilize the Punch List to report items requiring rectification from manufacturers or suppliers.
  • Participate in and occasionally lead supplier audits and quality management meetings.
  • Maintain accurate QA records and documentation, submitting them to the CES Project QA SPOC or the CES Site QA Team Leader or QA Manager as required.
  • Timely prepare and submit inspection results and records to the CES Project QA SPOC.
  • If designated as the Project QA SPOC, prepare project QA reports for submission to CES Project Manager(s) as needed.
  • Engage with manufacturers and terminals to address and resolve quality issues related to equipment manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with APMT Asset Engineering (AE) to tackle design-related issues for continuous improvement.
  • Manage changes in projects effectively while considering the best interests of CES.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of quality inspection procedures.
  • Accurately report time in accordance with CES's standard framework.
  • Adhere to all HSSE regulations and policies of CES and associated suppliers or terminals, aligning with CES's commitment to a zero-incident culture.
  • Perform additional related tasks as required.
  • Through these efforts, enhance customer satisfaction and optimize Total Cost of Ownership for CES's equipment.
  • Comply with all company policies and the Code of Conduct.
  • Promote the culture, values, and reputation of CES and APMT Group.

Reporting Structure:

  • Reports to the Project Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for inspection records and reports.
  • Reports to the QA Site Team Leader if assigned as Project QA SPOC.
  • Reports to the Head of QA Department in the absence of a site QA Team Leader.

Work Environment:

  • The primary work location will be at ZPMC Changxing Base.
  • Quality Inspectors may be required to work at various suppliers' and terminal sites, necessitating domestic or international travel as scheduled by the company.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Welding, or a related field.
  • Additional training in quality management and/or inspection is advantageous.
  • Further training in structural, mechanical, or hydraulic fields within heavy industrial environments is beneficial.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of direct experience in quality inspection within the crane manufacturing sector.
  • Must possess AWS CWI certification (American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector).
  • Experience with third-party inspection companies, crane manufacturers, or terminals is highly valued.
  • Possession of internationally recognized welding inspection certification is a plus.
  • Any internationally recognized NDT (RT, UT, MT, or PT) certification (e.g., ASNT or ISO9712) is advantageous.
  • Any internationally recognized Corrosion Protection certification (e.g., AMPP, NACE, or SSPC) is a plus.

Specialized Knowledge:

  • Requires technical knowledge in crane structural fabrication, welding, mechanical fabrication, heat treatment, installation, assembly, alignment, and hydraulics.
  • Comprehensive understanding of structural and mechanical engineering principles as they relate to crane manufacturing.
  • Technical knowledge of structural/mechanical/hydraulic measurement instruments and survey procedures is essential.
  • Ability to interpret structural, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical drawings, layouts, and specifications.
  • General familiarity with crane manufacturing processes is required.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, technologies, and best practices in crane manufacturing.

Communication & Language Skills:

  • Effectively communicates ideas to individuals and groups in both oral and written forms, adjusting language as necessary.
  • Proficient in English, capable of reading technical documentation and creating QA records and reports.
  • Competent in using MS Office and other relevant applications.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and work with others outside formal authority to achieve organizational goals.
