Lenovo is seeking a highly experienced trade compliance attorney to join its Global Legal Compliance team. As a Senior Counsel, Global Trade Regulations, you will play a critical role in implementing and sustaining the company's compliance programs for the Global Innovation Center (GIC) sector.
The role will be based in Shanghai, China, and will require frequent contact with internal stakeholders throughout the company's global operations, including executives. You will advise strategically on a wide range of trade compliance matters in China and AP, coordinating with external legal counsel as needed and providing legal advice to the company and its business units and departments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze evolving global trade laws and regulations and their impact on company strategy and operations
- Conduct trade compliance risk assessments, audits, validation, and due diligence reviews, developing enhancement plans as needed
- Communicate with external partners, including suppliers, agents, customers, trade associations, and government on Lenovo's global trade requirements and industry best practice in trade compliance
- Design and advise on effective trade compliance policies, operating procedures, and technology control plans for GIC in China and AP
- Support product classification, license determination, and license application
- Manage critical projects and oversee procurement, R&D, and production activities to ensure company compliance with applicable laws and internal policies
- Perform contract review from a trade compliance perspective and provide regular updates
Requirements:
- Knowledge of export control laws in China mainland and Taiwan
- Ability to provide guidance on EAR determination, ECCN classification, and license determination
- Understanding of trade compliance requirements and best practice in the semiconductor industry
- Ability to identify and solve complex problems, think beyond existing solutions, and frameworks
- Excellent communication skills and ability to explain and present complex legal advice to senior executives and gain the trust of business stakeholders to achieve desired objectives
- Ability to deliver outstanding written work-product quality
- 12 years of working experience in legal/compliance with a minimum of 6 years of experience in advising multinational businesses on trade compliance and export control matters
- ITC industry experience required
- Law firm or consulting firm experience a plus but not a must
- Fluency in Mandarin and English
Educational Requirement:
- Juris Doctor (JD) in common law jurisdictions or a Law Degree in China with a LLM in common law jurisdictions
- Science and Engineering background a plus
