Job Title: Managing Editor, Collections Management and Acquisition
Location: Beijing, Shanghai
The goal of the Springer Nature Journals Group is to assist researchers in sharing and advancing discoveries for a brighter world. This is achieved by providing a secure environment where researchers can easily and transparently present their findings, data, and research stories.
The Collections Management and Acquisition Team, part of the Publishing Performance & Intelligence group, offers expertise and resources to support the expansion of commissioned content across the SN Journal portfolio.
The Managing Editor will collaborate with commissioning editors, publishers, external editors, and operational partners to coordinate and oversee collections for key segments of the SN Journals portfolio. They will manage multiple active collections and work closely with operational teams to ensure a high level of supervision for commissioned articles.
Boosting commissioned content is crucial for scaling the Springer Nature journal portfolios, and this role plays a vital part in achieving this growth while upholding exceptional quality and author service.
Responsibilities:
- Project management of live collections
- Assisting Commissioning Editor/Guest Editor and Authors with inquiries
- Coordinating with the Marketing department
- Primary contact for Guest Editor during the collection process
- Performance reporting of the Collection
- Liaison for Guest Editor and operations
- Tracking content flow and ensuring timely delivery against collection submission deadlines
- Enhanced supervision to ensure service quality and as a key escalation point
- Reviewing and ensuring excellent peer review for commissioned content
- Assigning new submissions to assistant editors and providing support as necessary
- Monitoring turnaround times (TATs)
- Collaborating with the Editorial Support Advisor team to develop robust workflow documentation for all portfolios
- Point of contact for production and other queries
Experience:
- Solid experience with journal publishing workflows, particularly from submission to acceptance
- Thorough understanding of publishing ethics and integrity issues
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Effective administrative and organizational skills
- Proficient in written and spoken English
- Ability to multitask
- Sound understanding of balancing operational efficiency and editorial excellence
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree minimum
- Applications from recent graduates are also welcome for the ME role
This position is available in Beijing, Shanghai, and Nanjing offices with a hybrid working model. Please specify your preferred location in your application.
