Accounting Specialist

Job Summary
As a key member of the Marriott International team, the Accounting Specialist will play a vital role in supporting the day-to-day execution of general ledger impacted processes. This includes providing support to clients as they work with and understand these processes. The successful candidate will perform accounting functions specifically in the areas of account balancing, ledger reconciliation, reporting, and discrepancy resolution.
Candidate Profile
Education and Experience
• A 4-year bachelor's degree in Finance and Accounting or a related major is required. No work experience is necessary.
Core Work Activities
Managing Work, Projects, and Policies
• The Accounting Specialist will coordinate and implement accounting work and projects as assigned.
• The successful candidate will coordinate, implement, and follow up on Accounting SOP audits for all areas of the property.
• The Accounting Specialist will comply with all applicable laws related to fraud and collection procedures.
• The candidate will generate and provide accurate and timely results in the form of reports, presentations, etc.
• The Accounting Specialist will analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
• The successful candidate will compile, code, categorize, calculate, tabulate, audit, or verify information or data.
• The Accounting Specialist will balance credit card ledgers.
• The candidate will verify contracts for groups and perform credit reference checks for direct billed groups if necessary.
Maintaining Finance and Accounting Goals
• The Accounting Specialist will achieve and exceed goals, including performance goals, budget goals, team goals, etc.
• The successful candidate will develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish their work.
• The Accounting Specialist will submit reports in a timely manner, ensuring delivery deadlines.
• The candidate will ensure profits and losses are documented accurately.
• The Accounting Specialist will monitor all taxes that apply, ensuring that taxes are current, collected, and/or accrued.
• The successful candidate will maintain a strong accounting and operational control environment to safeguard assets.
• The Accounting Specialist will complete period-end functions each period.
• The candidate will provide direction and assistance to other organizational units regarding accounting and budgeting policies and procedures, and efficient control and utilization of financial resources.
Demonstrating and Applying Accounting Knowledge
• The Accounting Specialist will demonstrate knowledge of job-relevant issues, products, systems, and processes.
• The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of return check procedures.
• The Accounting Specialist will demonstrate knowledge of the Gross Revenue Report.
• The candidate will demonstrate knowledge and proficiency with write-off procedures.
• The Accounting Specialist will demonstrate knowledge and proficiency with consolidated deposit procedures.
• The successful candidate will keep up-to-date technically and apply new knowledge to their job.
• The Accounting Specialist will use computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, set up functions, enter data, or process information.
• The candidate will use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
Leading Accounting Teams
• The Accounting Specialist will utilize interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence, and encourage others; advocate sound financial/business decision making; demonstrate honesty/integrity; lead by example.
• The successful candidate will motivate and provide a work environment where employees are productive.
• The Accounting Specialist will impose deadlines and delegate tasks.

Managing and Conducting Human Resources Activities
• The Accounting Specialist will interview, select, and train employees.
• The successful candidate will appraise employee's productivity and efficiency for the purpose of recommending promotions or other changes in status.
• The Accounting Specialist will follow progressive discipline procedures as appropriate.
• The candidate will provide for the safety and security of the employees or the property.
• The Accounting Specialist will monitor employee attendance and records absences/tardiness.
• The successful candidate will help direct supervisors to achieve their own development goals.
• The Accounting Specialist will conduct annual performance appraisal with direct reports according to Standard Operating Procedures.
