About the Role:

CSA Group is seeking a highly skilled Product Safety Certifier to join our team. As a Product Safety Certifier, you will be responsible for providing high-quality certification services that meet the needs of our clients in the most efficient and effective manner possible.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage certification projects concurrently, ensuring compliance with all applicable safety requirements and achieving completion within time frames and cost deadlines.
  • Evaluate products against the requirements of national and international standards and precedent decisions.
  • Handle a wide spectrum of projects, including complex ones that generate high revenue levels.
  • Deliver assigned projects and tests within agreed-upon timescales, demonstrating the ability to accurately manage project costs within the agreed budget.
  • Maintain good productivity in line with company expectations.
  • Demonstrate technical competence to review the work of others, as per divisional quality documents.
  • Demonstrate technical competence to perform witness testing, as per divisional quality documents.
  • Demonstrate technical competence in two or more product qualification competencies.
  • Review test data and reports, and authorize the application of the CSA Mark. Prepare and/or sign Certification Reports and Certificates of Compliance.
  • Provide clients with assistance in solving problems or failures, without divulging proprietary information.
  • Keep the Product Group Manager or Team Leader or Assistant Operations Manager informed of project status, pointing out major problems and non-compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Product Group Manager or Team Leader or Assistant Operations Manager.

Customer Focus:

  • Work with sales to support current clients and develop new client opportunities to support growth.
  • Prepare project quotations for cost and time.
  • Classify products by use, environment, and function.
  • Determine applicable requirements, test, and standards.
  • Determine sample requirements and method/location for testing/evaluation best suited to customers' needs.
  • Provide client feedback to Managers, Team Leader, or Sales representatives, as appropriate.
  • Explain the different product certification programs available to clients and the requirements for control of production.

Testing and Evaluation:

  • Perform within established DQD guidelines.
  • Prepare Test Lab Work Orders and Special Testing Documentation, including details regarding applicable sections of relevant standards, test sample plan, data collection methods, and tables.
  • Provide necessary guidance to Lab Technicians to ensure proper application of requirements and data collection methods are in line.
  • Able to demonstrate experience of performing common testing within CSA laboratories.
  • Makes field trips and witnesses test work at manufacturer's facilities as required.
  • Has a good knowledge of the clauses and tests within the standards they support and can demonstrate application across multiple product types.
  • Demonstrates the ability to compile evaluation records, data, and summary test results into forms, templates, and checklists without the need for supervision.
  • Demonstrates the ability to correctly interpret the results from the tests with only minimal guidance and supervision.

Self-Development:

  • The Certifier II is subject to internal audits for compliance and competence.
  • Participates in CSA Group Continuous Improvement and Innovation projects.
  • Makes recommendations on new programs/equipment to expand core capabilities.
  • Generates ideas to improve laboratory safety.
  • Becomes fully knowledgeable in all national/international standards through research of standards, documentation, bulletins, and technical articles in the area of specialty.
  • Recommends revisions to ensure technical consistency to resolve issues of pertinent practices, processes, and precedents.
  • Can explain to others the standards they are competent in.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with likely 3 years of job-related experience or
  • Certified Engineering Technologist, Journeyman Electrician, or equivalent industry experience with likely 3 years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of CSA, UL, and IEC Standards.
  • Variety of testing procedures.
  • Knowledge of CSA programs and services.
  • Demonstrate the ability to confidently and clearly communicate, explain findings, test results, and technical decisions to others, including customers and other engineers.
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills; customer service skills.
  • Strong problem-solving ability; detail-oriented.
  • Strong organizational, time, and project management skills.
  • Able to work unsupervised, in a team-based work environment.
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office).
  • Technical report writing.
  • Use of various lab equipment, instruments, and tools.
