Job Description

Job Summary:

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office is seeking a highly skilled Financial Policy Advisor to join our team in Beijing. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in shaping our financial policy and regulatory framework in China.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement financial policy and regulatory frameworks in China, aligned with UK interests.
  • Conduct economic and financial analysis on China's financial sector and markets, providing timely and accurate reports to stakeholders.
  • Support the development of China's financial services policy and regulatory framework, including initiating policy research, seminars, and capacity-building events.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including the Chinese government, think tanks, universities, and international organizations.
  • Lead on and deliver successful visits to Beijing by UK government ministers and senior officials, developing a strong network of contacts within the Chinese government and other organizations.

Requirements:

  • Strong written and oral English and Chinese skills are essential.
  • Previous experience of communicating clearly and concisely in English is essential, including the ability to explain technical terms and processes to a non-technical audience.
  • Applicants should have a very strong understanding of the economy of China and/or China's financial sector and markets.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in economics or finance.
  • Previous experience working in or with government on economic and financial issues.

Working Patterns:

35 hours of work per week from Monday to Friday, 08:30-17:30. There may be occasions that may require you to work outside normal hours.
